STUDIES ON INHERITANCE OF CHILLING TOLERANCE IN CUCUMBER SEEDLING STAGE

Authors:   C. Zhuhu, Z. Qijie, X. Yong
Keywords:   Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), Chilling tolerance, Inheritance
Abstract:
Two chilling tolerant parents (Nongdachunguang., Beijing cigua) and two chilling sensitive parents (Nongdaqouguang, Jinyan No.4) were used to study the genetic regularity of cucumber chilling tolerance determinated by there absolute indexes and the comprehensive index inferred, according to Griffing's method I and IV. The main results showed as following: The chilling tolerant offsprings did not appear in the combinations of chilling tolerant lines X chilling tolerant lines; The superiority of chilling tolerance was mainly partial-dominations in the combinations of chilling tolerant lines X chilling sensitive lines, though super-dominant appeate in some offspring of these combinations. The chilling tolerance was not significantly promoted by back-crossing with the chilling tolerant lines and significantly decteased with the chilling senetive lines. The general combining ability (GCA) of he chilling tolerant lines was higher than that of the chilling sensitive lines, and the specific combining ability (SCA) was predominant in the combinations of chilling tolerant lines X chilling sensitive lines but there were significant varations among different combinations. The broad and the the narrow sense heritability of the four indexes were comparatiely large; The broad sense heritability of the comprehensie index (99.0159) and the narrow sense heritability of chilling injury (82.687) were the greatest respectively.
