SELECTION OF 2N GAMETES AND IMPROVMENT OF GERMPLASM IN POTATO

Authors:   Q. Dongyu, Z.W. Gao
Keywords:   Potato, 2n gamete, Cytogenetics, TPS, Breeding
Abstract:
It is reported that cytogenetic mechanism, genetic variation, cytological characteristics and germination of 2n pollens in potato were observed. The 2n pollen formation is controlled by parallel spindle(ps) gene and some genotypes have desynapsis(ds) gene combined with ps gene to produce FDR 2n pollens. However some genotypes form 2n pollens due to dusion of two nuclei at telophase II, which needs to be investigated in details.

There are relatively large variation of 2n pollen frequency between ploidy levels genetic background (speices), environmental condition (cool and warm)and genotypes even among buds in a gentype showed significant differences (5.3–26.2%). But the ratioes of diameter 2n/n pollens are relatively certain (1.45+0.1). For practical breeding the genotype selection which produced stable frequency of 2n pollens with acceptable agronomic traits is of prime importance.
