INFLUENCE OF MOISTURE DEFICIT LEAF-AIR AND CULTURAL PRACTICES ON TRANSPIRATION OF GLASSHOUSE ROSES

Abstract:
The moisture deficit between leaf and glasshouse air appears to have a considerable effect on transpiration of rose (cv Frisco). Differences in moisture deficit are partly caused by differences in minimum water temperature settings of the heating system, while the same glasshouse air temperature setting is maintained. Depending on the minimum water temperature setting of the heating system, differences in transpiration of up to 18% were observed.

The daily transpiration of cv Frisco appeared to be closely correlated to both the moisture deficit and the global radiation. Also for 10 minutes periods a clear relationship could be observed between transpiration and moisture deficit or global radiation. For cv Frisco and three other cultivars the production appeared to be affected by the moisture deficit.
