Abstract:
The growth of horticultural businesses can be guided by expansion of the national economy and the demand for certain products.
Businesses should develop to a suboptimum scale.
They stand to benefit by exploiting all cost advantages individually or jointly.
The existence of as large a number as possible of independent businesses operating on a scale suited to their particular markets might be more advantageous than too small a number of hyperconcentrated enterprises.
The future objective of horticultural economists is to keep a watch on the businesses, to work out long-term planning methods for them to adopt, and to formulate objectively founded statements.
