ISHS Acta Horticulturae 40: III Symposium on Horticultural Economics

ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING ON CYCLAMEN

Author:   G. Neuray
Abstract:
When the objectives of applied research are dictated by economic needs, research can produce results which, even if they are not necessarily consistent with the fixed objectives, create a new economic situation completely different from the one expected.

The consequences of research work concerning the effects of artificial light on Cyclamen flowering give a very simple example from which we can establish the mutual connections between applied research and economics and show the limitations inherent in economic forecasting.
