| Abstract:
Carbon dioxide enrichment of glasshouse atmospheres constitutes the outstanding achievement of this decade in the culture of greenhouse vegetables. Within less than four years a new practice, requiring considerable technology, has been introduced and enthusiastically adopted by a major segment of the industry. The results have been unusually promising (3, 4). They leave little doubt as to the major role this, old yet new, growth factor will play in the future productivity of crops grown in glass or plastic greenhouses. New practices, however, create new problems which must be solved before full benefits can be realized. Attention will be given in this report to problems as well as the potential offered by use of carbon dioxide in growing vegetables under glass or plastic. | |
