| Abstract:
The climate under unheated plastic houses is not suitable for high-quality and high-yielding vegetable production. One of the major problems that restricts exportation of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris, cvs. Serbo and Helda) and sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is the malformed fruits. The disorder appears under plastichouse winter cultivation due to low night temperatures. Double layer plastic houses, water sleeves, straw mulch and kerosine heater were compared to single layer plastic houses. The results obtained showed that vegetative growth was improved in double layer treatment than single layer although there was a slight improvement in the yield and quality. Green house heating kerosine heater proved to ensure top quality fruits with higher yield. The feasibility studies showed that heating may cover the cost by improving the quality and hence the price per kg. | |
