RECALCULATION OF OPTIMAL SHAPES OF EAST-WEST ORIENTED TUNNELS WITH RESPECT TO DIRECT SOLAR RADIATION TRANSMISSIVITY

Author:   K. Kurata
Keywords:   optimization, reflection, solar radiation, transmissivity, tunnels
Abstract:
The optimal shape of parallel east-west oriented single-span tunnels with respect to direct solar radiation transmissivity in cold seasons in middle latitude countries was recalculated. The optimal tunnels found in this study gave about 3 % higher transmissivity than that previously found and about 12 % higher transmissivity than the conventional semicircular tunnels. This high transmissivity was caused mainly by utilization of reflected radiation at the outer surfaces of the cover.
