| Abstract:
The XXIVth ISHS International Congress on Horticultural Science was held at Kyoto International Conference Hall in Kyoto Japan from August 21 till 27, 1994. Twelve symposia were organized to revitalize the congress and to be its cores as a whole. The symposium Greenhouse Environment Control and Automation is one of those symposia, and there are two other ones which are related each other, that is, Environmental Effects and Their Control in Plant Tissue Culture and Transplant Production and Hydroponics. In addition to the symposia, many papers and posters were presented in general sessions. The publication of twelve Acta was planned to involve related oral presentations and posters being based on each symposium. This Acta is the one for the symposium Greenhouse Environment Control and Automation. Therefore, you may find related papers in the other two Acta which was based on the other two symposia as well. This Acta includes papers over the various engineering aspects related to the symposium topics in addition to six invited papers in the symposium Greenhouse Environment Control and Automation. Topics covered are greenhouse heating and cooling, humidity and carbon dioxide concentration control, engineering aspects of hydroponics, environment and plant modeling, light penetration mechanism in greenhouses and application of artificial light, robotics and transportation systems, and computer applications. Acknowledgement should be made to the organizing committee of the congress especially the chairman Dr.
Masatoshi Iwata who initiated to have the symposia as well as their publication as Acta.
