Abstract:
In this work, the effects of harvest times and postharvest treatments on storage of 'Valencia' oranges (Citrus sinensis [L.] Osbeck) grown in Antalya, Turkey were investigated.
The fruits were harvested in two different harvest times and separated into three groups for different postharvest treatments and stored at 6°C with 85–90% relative humidity.
During the storage, various physical and chemical analyses were performed, fungal and physiological decays were determined by taking samples monthly.
The research indicated that the most suitable conditions for Valencia oranges were found for those fruits harvested at the beginning of April, wrapped with diphenyl impregnated paper and stored at 6°C with 85–90% relative humidity.
Under these conditions, this orange variety can be stored successfully for 6 months without losing much of its quality.
