Abstract:
Three levels of nutrient solution concentration (1.2, 2.4 and 3.6 mS/cm) were tested to dill and thyme plants with constant solution temperature (20°C). Fresh and dry leaves weight and concentration of N, P, K and Ca in leaves and roots of dill increased with higher nutrient concentrations.
Maximum yields of dill was achieved with 3.6 mS/cm.
Essential oil concentration in leaves increased with lower concentrations.
The highest essential oil yield of dill were consequently obtained at 2.4 mS/cm.
Fresh and dry leaves weight, concentration of N, P, K, Ca and Mg in leaves and roots, and essential oil concentration in leaves of thyme increased with higher concentrations.
Maximum yield and the highest essential oil yield of thyme were achieved with 3.6 mS/cm.
Though P absorption rate was decreased in lower concentrations, non significant differences were observed in other nutrient absorption rates in both species.
Absorption rates of N : P : K : Ca : Mg were 15 : 2 : 10 : 3 : 2 in dill and 30 : 5 : 10 : 6 : 4 in thyme respectively.
