Abstract:
This study was carried out using solution culture for the purpose of year-round culture of chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. foliosum).

First experiment was studied to determine the most suitable nutrient solution among Cooper's, Hoagland & Arnon's, and Yamazaki's solution. Six kinds of cultivar from Italy were used. Characteristics of cultivars grown in solutions were differently. The yield, fresh top and root weight and mineral content (N, P, K) were best in the plot of Yamazaki's solution.

Second experiment was conducted with Yamazaki's solution, which was treated to EC of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0mS/cm, in order to investigate the ionic strength of suitable level of chicory. High yield and mineral contents were found in 1.5mS/cm treatment. Changes of vitamin C and mineral contents in different ionic strength condition were discussed.
