Abstract:
A heat balance model for the plant tissue culture system to predict the temperatures of culture vessel surface, air inside vessel and gel medium was developed. The finite element method, which is one of the numerical methods to solve heat transfer problems, was used for this simulation.

Air temperature inside culture vessel was calculated by this finite element model and showed good agreement with the temperature measured experimentally. This suggests this model is useful for simulating air temperature inside culture vessel.

With this model the effects of reduction of thermal radiation, air flow over culture shelf and culture shelf cooling on the increase of temperature inside vessel were evaluated.
