Authors:   X.X. Deng, Z.H. Sun, L. Gan, W.C. Zhang
Keywords:   Citrus, Protoplast fusion, Somatic hybrid, Cold hardiness, Fertility
Abstract:
Somatic hybrid plants between Rough lemon (Rl) and 'Hamlin' (Hm) sweet orange, 'Valencia' (VI) sweet orange and Ichang papeda, and 'Meiwa' kumquat (Fc) and 'Valencia' grew normally. Their cold hardiness were intermediate between their corresponding parents. Interspecific somatic hybrid Hm (+) Rl had 74.53% pollen stainability and 6.32% pollen germinability. Among more than 200 flowers of Hm (+) Rl hybrids, 95.3% of them were pistil abortive, but the same phenomenon was also observed in the parent Rough lemon (Rl).
