APPEAL OF OUTDOOR ORNAMENTAL PLANTS

Author:   N. Kravanja
Keywords:   Aesthetic evaluation, Interviews, Preferential ratings, Ornamentals
Abstract:
Appeal of green spaces depends greatly on the choice of plants. This study was meant to find which species of outdoor ornamental plants people of Slovenia like more and which less. The working methods of experimental aesthetics were used. A questionnaire was sent out, being answered by persons of both sexes, of different ages, education and professions. Observers were asked to rank 29 different outdoor ornamental plants on the basis of their liking.

The results show identical opinions on the choice of the most appealing plant and otherwise a rather high variability of opinion. The preference ranking is influenced by professional characteristics of the observers.
