Abstract:
Seven hydrocarbons, b-amyrin, campesterol and, b-sitosterol were found in the unsabonifiable matter of seeds.
GLC of the methylated fatty acids, revealed the presence of palmitic, oleic, linoleic and eicosanoic as the major fatty acids of the seeds.
The mucilage and pectin hydrolysate were identified by gas chromatographic analysis Arabinose, xylose, galactose, glucose and uronic acids were identified.
The hypoglycaemic and hypocholestelemic activity of the mucilage and pectin were determined on alloxan-induced diabetic rats.
The significant decrease in the blood glucose level were 60.48% and 54.68% for seeds and mesocarps mucilages respectively.
The seeds pectin decreased the blood glucose level by 28.49% after 24 hours
