ISHS Acta Horticulturae 390: Internat. Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

STUDIES ON THE GENETIC DIVERSITY AMONG PANAX SPECIES AND PANAX GINSENG USING RANDOM AMPLIFIED POLYMORPHIC DNA(RAPD) ANALYSIS.

Authors:   S. Park, C. Shin, E. Shin, J. Jo, Y. Lim
Abstract:
In order to detect inherent variations and genetic relationships among Panax species and Panax ginseng cultivars, RAPD assays were performed with 9 random oligonucleotide primers on these ginseng species. Results indicated that Panax ginseng widely cultivated in Northeast Asia is the least genetically related to the other Panax species collected worldwide. Nine different cultivars of Panax ginseng were also analyzed by RAPD assays. We were able to divide these cultivars in two different groups (A and B). The group A is composed of ChungKyung, KG-101 and Hwangskoog, and the members belonged to group B were Jakyung 79742, Jakyung 81783, Jakyung 847913, Jiniakyung, Jinjakyung of Russia and Mimaki.
