| Abstract:
India, having nearly 1400 essential oil yielding species, hardly cultivates more than three dozen of these for using odoriferous principles in perfumery and related industries. Inspite of the fact that India produces solely the Sandal wood oil, the country still depends on import of different essential oils. However in recent years, to create impact in the international arena with nature-based consumer products, different research institutions have taken up agrotechnological programmes for improving cultivation aspects of essential oil yielding plants. These natural ingredients of high quality are likely to play an increased role in tomorrow's perfumery and flavour industries. In India Citronella, Lemon Grass, Palmarosa Grass and Mentha are some of the very emerging Categories of oderiferous plants, agronomy of which have been studied extensively. The present paper deals with agrotechnology under water stressed conditions of one important essential oil yielding species of commerce growing in India viz. Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon flexuosus Steud). | |
