ISHS Acta Horticulturae 390: Internat. Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

THE BREEDING OF MALE PLANTS OF SEA-BUCKTHORN (HIPPOPHAE RHAMNOIDES) FOR MEDICINAL USE OF POLLEN

Authors:   A.V. Panteev, M.S. Shalkevich
Abstract:
Four promising selections of sea-buckthorn (Hippophae rhammoides) have been obtained as a result of breeding work on Baltic ecotypes and Altaian varieties. Two of these selections (F-85–4 and B-195) have limited growth and are suitable for mechanical harvesting of buds before flowering. Hybrids F-85–9 and V-89–15 are tall plants and good pollinators. All promising selections have winter hardiness of generative organs, canes with few thorns and produce large amounts of viable pollen grains. They are diploid (2n=24).
