EFFECTS OF TWO PRUNING SYSTEMS ON GROWTH AND YIELD DEVELOPMENT IN FOUR PORTUGUESE VARIETIES OF GRAPEVINES |

| Abstract:
In Coimbra, a city in the central region of Portugal, a trial was carried out with the grapevine varieties of Arinto, Bical, Baga and Castelão, grafted in the rootstocks 1103 P, 140 Ru, SO4 and 99 R. The results of the year 1991/92 were analysed and compared to alternative systems of pruning namely Royat vs Alterné cordon. The Arinto variety was the most productive, specially when grafted in 1103 P. The Alterné cordon pruning system led to higher yields in all the mentioned varieties without affecting their quality and vigour. | |
