SIMULATION MODELS AND FUNGICIDE RESIDUALS IN VITICULTURE

Authors:   B. Gozzini, V. Nocentini, S. Orlandini, M. Picchi, L. Seghi, C. Viviani
Abstract:
During a cultivation programme of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) high amounts of chemical compounds are needed to protect crop from diseases. In the last few years, the need of producing wine with a -low -content of chemical -residual has been felt by wine producer, on the basis of commercial, ecological and legislative considerations. To reach this reduction, two interventions could be applied: use of epidemiological models to control disease and improvement of fungicide residual determination. With this aim an experiment has been conducted in three vineyards of Mondeggi-Lappeggi farm (Florence, central of Italy) on the cultivar Sangiovese. In different vineyard plots treatment application times against downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola Berl. et De Toni) have been determined on the basis of a simulation model, called PLASMO (Plasmopara Simulation Model), and of the fixed intervals method. Others plots have been untreated against diseases. Each vineyard plot has been separately harvested and processing products (must, berries, marc, wine) have been analysed for fungicide residuals determination. This reasearch represent a first step towards the formulation of a global methodology to evaluate pesticide residual amounts primary and secondary products during wine making.
