COMPARISON OF CHERRY LEAF ROLL VIRUS ISOLATES OCCURRING IN WALNUT TREES

Author:   I. Tóbiás
Abstract:
Declining walnut trees (Juglans regia L.) have been observed in Nagykovácsi and Balatonboglár orchards. Walnut trees showing different portion of terminal shoot dieback without obvious symptoms on leaves. In same cases individual branches showed leaf symptoms of chlorotic ringspot, or chlorotic and pale yellow discoloration. Cherry leaf roll virus was detected from leaf samples. Two Hungarian walnut isolates (B-4 and N-4) - originated from different places and trees showing different type of symptoms - were compared with walnut (WOX) and non-walnut isolates (Elderberry and Cherry) of CLRV. The Hungarian isolates were distinct from previously described CLRV strains by symptoms on test plants. Antiserum was produced to CLRV-N-4 isolates with a titer of 1:1024. The examined CLRV isolates were distinguisable in gel diffusion and ELISA serological tests.
