IN VITRO MICROGRAFTING: A TECNIQUE TO ELIMINATE PEACH LATENT MOSAIC VIROID FROM PEACH

Authors:   M. Barba, A. Cupidi, S. Loreti, F. Faggioli, L. Martino
Abstract:
Peach latent mosaic viroid (PLMVd) was detected in five different peach cultivars (Armking, Stark Red, Firebrite, May Grand and GF 677) by biological, electrophoretic and molecular hybridization assays. Apical meristems (0.3 – 0.8 mm long), taken from mother plants, were cut and grafted onto healthy Nemaguard seedlings in vitro cultured. After two months, all the micrografted plantlets were transferred into pots and checked for the presence of PLMVd by slot blot hybridization. Results showed that in vitro micro grafting technique is able to eliminate in different percentages, PLMVd from infected peach plants.
