Abstract:
Specific dsRNAs associated with infective fruit deformations in quince cv Leskovacka were isolated and identified in leaves from naturally infected trees and from artificially inoculated quince plants.
Four dsRNA bands were identified, with molecular weight ranging from 6.6 to 4.1 x106. Molecular weights of other two ds RNAs were 4.9 x 106 and 4.5 x 106. Seasonal changes in the amount of dsRNAs detected only in summer and autumn were observed.
Another two dsRNA profiles were detected, with three and five bands, which probably suggests the presence of different strains.
The slowest-migrating dsRNA in all three profiles had the same molecular weight.
This predominant ds RNA is identical in size with ds RNA from pear vein yellows virus (PVYV) infected pear, which suggests a close relationship between the two agents associated with quince fruit deformation and PVYV.
