Abstract:
Different reaction patterns were observed in a field trial with two different sources of apple chlorotic leafspot trichovirus (ACLSV) in the German prune type ‘Etscheid’. The source PBM 1 which induces distinct line pattern in the variety ‘Ersinger’ caused severe pseudopox symptoms in the fruit of ‘Etscheid’ including strong early fruit fall.
Additionally a narrow line pattern appeared in a few basal leaves.
The other source (GM 2/11) caused no fruit and leaf symptoms.
No significant differences in fruit fall to healthy control trees were observed.
GM 2/11 very seldom caused mild leaf symptoms in ‘Ersinger’. Both ACLSV sources were free of ilarviruses and plum pox virus.
These results demonstrating distinct differences between two ACLSV sources in the ability to cause plum pseudopox were obtained in two successive years.
