Abstract:
Preliminary studies related to apricot resistance to plum pox virus have been performed in order to localize the virus within the tissues.
Apricot cultivars with different levels of susceptibility to the disease, indicator GF305 peach seedling and Nicotiana benthamiana were used.
A comparison between control and infected plants was performed.
Samples of leaves, stem and root fragments were picked from each plant.
From these samples, transversal cuttings were done.
Tissue printings were achieved on nitrocellulose paper.
The resulting imprints were subsequently probed with an antibody specific for plum pox virus to localize the virus within the tissues.
Large differences were shown between and within species in relation to tissues that were infected.
Further studies have to be made regarding localization of virus in relation to mechanisms of resistance.
