Abstract:
Only two virus diseases, Plum Pox Virus or sharka (PPV), and Apple Chlorotic Leaf Spot Virus (ACLSV), present certain diagnostic problems in apricots especially in the case of PPV. In addition, sharka virus is actively spread by aphids from tree to tree.
Apricot Chlorotic Leaf Roll (ACLR), a disease associated with mycoplasma-like organisms, also presents important problems of early detection and is spread from tree to tree probably by leafhoppers.
In this review, the advances made since the last symposium in these three mentioned diseases are described.
In the case of sharka, the advances on detection, epidemiology and selection for resistance are shown.
To conclude, the first detection of a viroid in apricots is reported.
