ISHS Acta Horticulturae 384: X International Symposium on Apricot Culture

DISTRIBUTION OF MAIN FRUIT AND TREE TRAITS IN SOME APRICOT PROGENIES

Authors:   R. Guerriero, P. Monteleone, F. Marrocco
Keywords:   Prunus armeniaca L., breeding, heritability
Abstract:
In order to contribute to the knowledge of the genetic mechanism which governs the inheritance of the main characteristics of the apricot, a study of several seedling populations originating from 9 different cross breeding combinations was carried out.

The observations were carried out for a period of 3 years on adult trees and on fruit samples gathered from the former. As expected by the IBPGR descriptor list, a series of phenologic and pomological traits were recorded and assessed by means of comparative scores, with the exception of the fruit weight, which was obtained through measuring.

Here, the analysis of the data relating to the following characters is reported: ripening time, productivity of the seedlings, fruit size, skin overcolour, flesh firmness and flavour.
