Abstract:
The histological symptoms of localized graft incompatibility were investigated in unions of five-month-old apricot/peach x almond grafts grown in a greenhouse.
Correspondence analysis of histological data revealed that incompatible grafts could be discriminated from compatible ones at this early date.
They were characterized by a clearly apparent union line in the bark and in the wood, the absence of cambial junction between the two partners, the presence of unlignified parenchyma cells at the wood interface and a low starch content in the wood of both partners.
