Abstract:
Since the spring of 1989 and 1990 a regrafting has been done on 7 to 8 year old apricot trees of the sort NJA with the sort ROXANA. The regrafting was performed under the bark at four different times: In 1989 on April 22 and May 1, 7 and 28, while in 1990 it was done on April 1, 15 and 30, as well as May 15. On each fruit tree three branches were regrafting in the first year and one to two branches remained ungrafting as nurse branches which were grafted the next year.
The acceptability of scions at the first two terms was excellent 78–100%, while at the third and fourth terms it decreased to 56%.
The growth of scions in the first year was small 0.4 to 9.1 m per fruit tree or 0.1–1.1 m per scion.
This was a consequence of the exuberant growth of the ungrafted branches.
The growth was highest at the first term of grafting and the least was at the latest term.
From this is could be concluded that regrafting of apricot trees should be performed earlier and that as far as possible, only a few ungrafted branches, whose growth needs to be restricted, should be left.
