USE OF GIBBERELLIN FORMULATIONS FOR IMPROVED FRUIT FIRMNESS AND CHEMICAL THINNING IN 'PATTERSON' APRICOT |

| Abstract:
Gibberellin (GA) formulations 3129 and 3068 were sprayed with an air-blast sprayer 10 and 21 days before 'Patterson' apricot (Prunus armeniaca) harvest to determine their effects on fruit firmness in 1992. Sprays of GA 3129 and 3068 at 100 ppm 21 days before harvest increased fruit firmness. GA 3068 increased firmness when sprayed at 50 ppm 21 days before harvest and at 100 ppm 10 days before harvest. Preharvest GA sprays reduced flower number and yield the next season leading to larger (heavier) fruit without hand thinning. Yield was not reduced when sprayed with GA 3129 at 50 ppm 21 days before harvest, but fruit weight was increased. | |
