ISHS Acta Horticulturae 384: X International Symposium on Apricot Culture

EFFECTS OF ARTIFICIAL POLLINATION ON THE FRUIT SET LEVEL AND FRUIT QUALITY IN SOME EARLY RIPENING APRICOT CULTIVARS

Authors:   G. MAHANOGLU, S. ETI, S. PAYDAS
Abstract:
In this research the effects of self-and cross-pollinations on the fruit set and fruit quality of high yielding, precocious and high quality apricot varieties of Priana, Beliana, Feriana, Canino and Precoce de Colomer were investigated. The parameters studied are as follows: fruit size, titratable acidity, TSS, pH of fruit juice.

Cross pollination increased the fruit set of the experimental apricot cultivars. Precoce de Colomer was found to be better pollinator than the other cultivars used. It is followed by Priana. The lowest fruit set values were obtained from the open pollination.

No significant differences were found in the quality parameters between the self and cross-pollinated cultivars.
