Abstract:
In this research, germination, viability and production of pollen of 5 early ripening apricot cultivars (Priana, Beliana, Feriana, Canino and Precoce de Colomer) were studied in vitro conditions.
Moreover, their pollen tube growths were checked in vivo conditions.
Generally the germination rates were found higher in 10 % and 15 % sucrose concentrations than the other concentrations.
The highest germination percentages were obtained with the Precoce de Colomer pollen.
It was followed by Priana pollen.
The lowest germination rates were observed with Canino pollen.
A positive correlation was observed between the viability and the germination rates of pollen.
Canino is the highest pollen producing cultivar among the varieties under experiment.
Pollen tube growth was examined in the fluorescent microscope.
In all the treatments the pollen tubes reached the ovule within 4 to 8 days.
Precoce de Colomer pollen tubes reached the ovules in a very short time (in 4 days) when they were used as pollinator for the other varieties.
However, the growths of the tubes were somewhat slower when this variety was selfed.
