APRICOT ADAPTATION STUDIES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN COASTAL REGION IN TURKEY

Authors:   N. Kaska, A. Yildiz, H. Ayanoglu, M. Saglamer, M.K. Güngör
Abstract:
In this adaptation study, 15 native cultivars which were gathered from different regions of Turkey and 16 foreign apricot cultivars were investigated as regards their phenological and pomological characteristics and yields between 1981 and 1990 at Alata Horticultural Research Institute, Erdemli, içel-Turkey.

To determine the best suitable cultivars for the region, extreme cold and mild years which occurred in succession considered as an opportunity for determining their chilling requirements. The cultivars that could not set fruit in both extrem cold and mild years were easily eliminated. Among the remaining cultivars with regards to their precocity and yield well as their fruit quality, the following cultivars were recommended for the Mediterranean coastal region. Precoce de Colomer, J.Foulon, San Castracese, Canino, Cafona, Fracasso and Sakit 2.
