ANTHER AND POLLEN GRAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF APRICOT CULTIVARS

Authors:   G.H. Davarynejad, Z. Szabó, E. Váci Felhösné, Zs. Kun, J. Nyéki
Abstract:
Anther morphology, pollen production of anthers and pollen size of apricot cultivars: Bergeron, Borsi-féle kései rózsa, Ceglédi óriás, MK 153, Ceglédi bíbor, Gönci magyar kajszi, Kécskei rózsa, Mandulakajszi, Nagykörösi óriás, Szegedi mammut was studied in a three year trial.

Tests of the 1988–1990 period have shown that morphological characteristics and colour of anthers vary between varieties.

Anther size of cultivars showed a maximum 64 % difference in any test year, but there was 26 % difference observed in the case of the same cultivars in two consecutive years.

Anther size of self-sterile varieties fluctuated to a greater extent, than that of self-fertile cultivars.

Results showed ten to fifteen fold differences between varieties in terms of pollen producing ability.
