Abstract:
The breeding work at the Apricot Experimental Station began in the early sixties and aims mainly at the creation of varieties which are adapted to the local environment, have an early and late period of ripening, are resistant to fungi diseases, frost-hardy and answer the market demands.
Some of the varieties, created during the period 1964–1974 are: Dobrudjanska ranna - with a very early period of ripening; Silistrenska kompotna - late ripening and practically resistant to Monilia laxa; Boriana - early ripening, with attractive and tasty fruit; Silistra 252 - late blooming, early ripening, with a stable dormancy and excellent frost-hardiness.
As for the breeding work since 1984, some of the seedlings that seem to be promising are: VII.1.90., V 2.87., VIII.67.90., VI II.68.90., with an early period of ripening; I.2.87., I.6.87., I.11.87., with a very late period of ripening; V 2.87., VII.1.90., VII.19.90., VII.29.90., VIII.14.90., early yielding; VII.19.90., VIII.8.90., VIII.70.90., VIII.69.90., VIII.67.90., VII.26.90., VII.29.90., with attractive, big and tasty fruit.
