Abstract:
Research work on apricot was conducted at The Fruit Research Institute in Cacak, Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun, Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, Faculty of Agronomy in Cacak, and Research Institute "PKB Agroekonomik" in Belgrade.
The majority of papers relate to the rootstocks and inheritance in the hybrid progeny of apricots.
A substantial number of papers deal with the assortment (cultivars, clones, hybrids) and the effect of low temperatures.
Less work has been done on the use of phytohormones, planting density and technological value of fruits.
Much work has been done on the breeding of new cultivars.
More than 10.000 seedlings were obtained from 350 crosses.
The objective of hybridization was to develop cultivars with large and good-quality fruits of differing ripening season, resistant to low temperatures and diseases, with sweet kernel.
The work on breeding cultivars resistant to sharka virus has started since 1987. Two cultivars have been released: Cacansko Zlato, Cacanska Pljosnata and promising hybrids - IV/81, IV/167, XVII/17 PAV, and VII/124 PAV.
Apricot production in 1981–1990 showed a slight increase in number of trees (5,2%), whereas yields have risen significantly over the same period (53,4%). The cvs.
Hungarian Best and Cacansko Zlato predominate in the assortment.
The major rootstocks used are Belošljiva and Myrobalan seedlings.
