Abstract:
Ripening season of good quality apricots in Hungary is only 3 weeks long, from early July till late July.
This unfavourable situation can be improved by breeding and introduction of foreign varieties into Hungary.
Among early taxons 'Hybrid 61/7', 'Hybrid 447/1/11', 'Samarkandskij rannij' and 'Hybrid 80/54/8' were the best.
Suitability for breeding for earliness of several other early taxons were also analyzed.
Among late varieties 'Selena' and 'Sirena' seemed to be promising for Hungarian production.
Using these two Romanian varieties apricot ripening season lasts until early August.
Kech-psar ripens extremly late.
Its hybrids ripen between late August and mid September.
Some of the seedlings have acceptable quality fruit.
