ISHS Acta Horticulturae 384: X International Symposium on Apricot Culture

PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF LOCAL APRICOT ADAPTATION STUDIES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION OF TURKEY

Authors:   H. Ayanoglu, N. Kaska
Abstract:
Apricot culture mostly depends on the climate, soil conditions and the cultivar chosen. The yield, the quality of the fruit and early ripening were affected by these three factors. Mut and Silifke in the Eastern Mediterranean region are the most important table apricot growing areas in Turkey.

The apricot cultivars that had been chosen were planted in Mut in 1987, and in Silifke in 1988. The phenological and pomological characteristics of the cultivars were observed. The results of these observations showed that the most promising cultivars for these two areas, with regards to precocity were Precoce de Tyrinthe and Silistre Rona, Precoce de Colomer and Canino for their yield, and Sakit-2 and Bebeco for the quality of their fruit.
