BREEDING FOR DISEASE RESISTANCE IN APRICOT PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS

Authors:   V. Balan, E. Stoian, T. Stancu, A. Ivascu, M. Oprea, I. Mircea, S. Valeriu
Abstract:
The aim of our research was to use the genetic methods in weakening the attack of pathogenous fungi Monilinia laxa (Aderh et Ruhl) Honey, Stigmina carpophila (Lev) M. B. Ellis and Cytospora cincta sacc, which causes most of the damage in all the apricot growing areas in Romania and of Pseudomonas syringae p.v. syringae van Hall bacteria that speeds and intensifies all this.

The resistance character against Monilinia laxa was perfectly expressed under artificially infected conditions in Baneasa 15/23; 17.3.52 BV and Dacia cultivar.

The hybrid combinations of the venus sensitive x uranus sensitive type produced to hybrid descendants with intermediate reaction (I), of average resistance (MR) and sensitivity (S) against Stigmina carpophila fungus.

The heterosis phenomenon caused the expression of the resistance (R) reaction against "In vivo" inoculation with virulent fragments of Cytospora cincta, in the F1 hybrid generations sprung from families of the venus sensitive x uranus sensitive type (Comandor x 77.3.52 BV) or venus sensitive x uranus sensitive resistant (Comandor x Excelsior; Comandor x Dacia).

"In vitro" inoculation with suspension in a mixture of 3 stems of the Pseudomonas bacteria produced a variable reaction from (R) resistant to very sensitive (FS) in descendants resulting from intermediate parents (I).

Genetic research of disease resistance in the F2 descendants and the obtained backcross shall be continued.
