ISHS Acta Horticulturae 383: Mineral Nutrition of Deciduous Fruit Plants

RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MINERAL STATUS OF PINOT NERO GRAPEVINES AND MUST ACIDITY

Authors:   M. Fregoni, A. Vercesi
Keywords:   grapevine, mineral nutrition, must acidity
Abstract:
In order to improve the knowledge on the relationship between the mineral composition of blades and the must acidity obtained from Pinot nero grapevines, we selected and kept under observation for two years nineteen vineyards located in the Oltrepò Pavese (north-west Italy) on loamy soils with pH between 7.5 and 8.3.

Only during the most rainy and productive year the positive correlations of N (in blades at veraison) and K (in must) versus pH of must were significant. The nitrogen concentration of leaves was positively correlated to the pH of must through a direct effect on the composition of organic acidity and through a likely positive effect on the potassium in the berries.
