Abstract:
The effectiveness of different Fe-sources as antichlorotic agents (polysaccharides: Carbomin Iron, Fe 12 %, and Carbomin Blend, Fe 3.9 %, Mn 4.3 %) was compared to commercial Fe-chelates (Sequestrene 138 and 330) over 3 year field trials, on an adult cling-peach orchard, cv.
Adriatica.
In order to evaluate the influence of the distribution method, these chemicals (at a final dose of 1000 g ha-1 Fe) were applied as soil-drench or as multiple foliar spray (20, 40, 60 days after full bloom).
Treatments did not consistently modify shoot growth.
Carbomin Iron distributed as foliar spray and Carbomin Blend applied to the soil induced the highest fruit set values, and Carbomin Iron as soil-drench the lowest.
Yield per tree was increased by all treatments, except for Carbomin Iron as soil-application.
Plants treated with Carbomin Blend and Carbomin Iron as foliar spray exhibited the maximum fruit weight, but the chemicals did not affect fruit growth pattern.
Application of Fe-complexes to the soil increased Fe-content of the leaves as compared to control; Carbomin Iron and Carbomin Blend being the most effective.
Among foliar treatments, both Sequestrene and Carbomin Iron increased leaf Fe-content.
