NITROGEN FERTILIZATION IN APPLE ORCHARDS - RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN AVAILABLE NITROGEN IN SOIL SAMPLES, NITRATES IN SOIL WATER AND LEACHING OF NITROGEN

Author:   D. Rupp
Keywords:   apple, nitrogen, soil samples, leaching of nitrate
Abstract:
In an apple orchard with variated N-fertilization (0,50 and 100 kg N/ha/a) nitrate contents of soil samples and soil water were compared and analysed using statistics and a simulation model. Nitrate in soil and soil water were influenced by fertilisation and soil cultivation. The mineralized nitrogen in soil samples can not be used to estimate the amount of leached nitrogen. Regarding the leached nitrogen there are only small differences between plots with 50 kg N/ha/a and those without fertilization.
