Abstract:
Data collected in the period 1989–1992 in three vineyards, where long term N and K factorial fertilizer trials started in 1988, indicated that: a) the lowest variability in nutrient leaf levels was shown at fruit set for P, K and Mg, and at veraison for N, Ca and B; b) the highest susceptibility to the "year effect" was shown at fruit set for N, at harvest time for P, K, Ca and Mg, and at veraison for B; c) nitrogen leaf levels at fruit set were highly correlated to vineyard performance.
The choice of the sampling time should be made for diagnostic purposes.
To estimate soil fertility, fruit set were highly correlated to vineyard performance.
The choice of the sampling time should be made for diagnostic purposes.
To estimate soil fertility, fruit set seems to be a more suitable time to estimate for P, K, Ca and Mg, while veraison is most suitable for N. To study the effect of environmental and cultural factors on grapevine nutrition, fruit set is preferred for N, and veraison for the other nutrients.
