ISHS Acta Horticulturae 382: IV International Symposium on Soil and Substrate Infestation and Disinfestation

PRELIMINARY TRIALS ON BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF FUSARIUM WILT OF BASIL

Authors:   A. Minuto, M. Mocioni, A. Garibaldi
Abstract:
The results obtained in 1991–92 during trials carried out in Northern Italy aimed to control Fusarium wilt of basil (Ocimum basilicum) by the use of antagonistic Fusarium spp., are reported. In the presence of moderately high disease incidence, seed coating (3x107 CFU/g of seed) and soil contamination (105 CFU/ml of soil) significantly reduced the number of basil plants infected by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. basilicum. In the absence of fungicides registered against this disease, the biological control agents are the only control method which can be used by the growers.
