Abstract:
Phenolics as allelochemics play a principal role for controlling the maintenance of the European Corn Borer Ostrinia nubilalis. Catechol and resorcinol as simple phenols when incorporated in a synthetic diet at 0.5 mg/g diet inhibited the larval growth by reducing the food consumption and increased excretion.
The efficiency of conversion of assimilated food was decreased.
The overall efficiency of ingested and digested food was decreased, leading to a reduction in the pupal weight.
