ELICITOR-INDUCED CHANGES IN THE PHENOL METABOLISM OF SUSPENSION-CULTURED CARROT CELLS

Abstract:
Anthocyanin-containing cell cultures from carrot respond to treatment with an elicitor from the oomycete Pythium aphanidermatum by shifting their phenol metabolism from anthocyanins to wall-bound 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA). The regulation of this metabolic change, the integration of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and the signal transduction after elicitation are studied.
