Abstract:
Two apricot varieties on several rootstocks were tested in the experiments, namely the generally graft-compatible 'Luizet' and the generally incompatible 'Moniqui'. The incompatible stock-scion combinations showed an enhanced flavanol-level in the phloem at the graft union.
In particular the concentrations of 2 flavanols of unknown structure increased as a response to incompatibility stress.
The accumulation of flavanols was monitored by HPLC and light microscopy, both after reaction with p-Dimethylaminocinnamaldehyd (DMACA).
