ISHS Acta Horticulturae 381: International Symposium on Natural Phenols in Plant Resistance

PHENOLIC BIOSYNTHESIS IN RELATION TO MOISTURE STRESS IN MARIGOLD (TAGETES ERECTA L)

Authors:   Shyam S. Kurup, U.G. Nalwadi, P.W. Basarkar
Abstract:
Induction of moisture stress for a period of twelve days at transplanting and pre-blooming stages in marigold exhibited a sharp peak in specific activity of peroxidase. The specific activity of the enzyme exhibited a sharp peak with the increased magnitude of moisture stress. This led to enhanced phenolic biosynthesis and formation of lignin.
