Abstract:
Young sugar maple leaves survived only 10 h under 254 nm radiation (UV), but red maple 36 h, while rue survived at least 7 days.
Furanocoumarin concentration in the rue leaf interior decreased to about the half the initial concentration after 1 and 2 days.
The concentrations rebounded after 4 days, and were higher than the initial one after 7 days.
Furanocoumarin concentrations on the leaf surface were as low as half that at the beginning after 4 and 7 days.
The epicuticular layer containing furanocoumarins, when observed in the SEM, was gradually degraded after 4 and 7 days.
